Get excited about achieving your goals this year

If you are like most people, you may have spent an entire 15 minutes contemplating what your goals for the New Year should be. Key word being SHOULD. You usually say them at least once at a New Year’s Eve Party, because someone always asks, “What is your New Year Resolutions going to be?” Then you may have attempted to stick to your goals for the last seven days. Then something better comes along and you completely forgot what you were supposed to be working towards. When an entire year goes by, you look back on your year and feel like you accomplished nothing. Or, you look back on your year and think hey, that wasn’t so bad was it? Does this sound familiar? Are you ready for a change?

I thought so. Here it goes, time to put on your thinking cap and grab a pen and a piece of paper or two! Grab a glass of water and a quiet corner of your home to start your dreaming.

Before you start to think about your new goals, I want you take some time to reflect back on the previous year and write down your successes or celebrations. We need to be aware of where we are at this very point in time, before we work on new goals. If you feel like you just had the worst year of your life, you can always find something to celebrate. It doesn’t have to be monumental; I want you to start shifting your mind set and see the positives in your life. It is important to remember to be gentle on yourself here.

Once you have a listed of your successes, write down your weakness or things that you need to improve on, along with what can be done to change them. This is an opportunity for you to write down the things in your life that caused you stress or aggravation. An example might be an untidy house (hire a cleaning service) or lack of self- control when it comes to the chip bag (do not buy them).

On a clean piece of paper, write down your goals for 2016. Remember, you can always go back and add to this list.

“Your goals are chosen by you, for you, and they get you excited every time you think of them. Your goals are your stepping stones toward your big dream!”

The next step is to break down each of your goals into achievable stepping stones. Write down the ways to make your goals a reality, and the steps that need to be taken. Another important reminder here is that you do not have to do this all by yourself. You can enlist the help of experts, friend or family members to help you achieve your goals. Money is not an issue when you are creating goals! Why???? Because if you want something bad enough, you WILL make it happen!

Here is your last step; write your goals out on a new piece of paper and hang that paper where you will see it every day! Every single day, take a minute and read those goals out loud. Make this paper look beautiful, add some pictures, pull out your scrapbooking supplies that are buried in the back of your closet. This is your road map for the next year of your life, be proud of your goals, own them!
